About the art of writing poetry, Huang Shun says:
Ever since I began regarding poetry as my lifelong vocation, I have been convinced that a poetic sensitivity must lie at the core of my work, and that the craft of language itself is the highest form of ethics. For me, a powerful poem is about keen perception: it summons a moment of strangeness from the familiar routines of daily life, or uncovers a poetic glimmer within the ordinary. In addition, it should reflect fine workmanship, offer a novel linguistic form—after all, writing is a craft. Of course, it’s crucial that the craft serve precisely the act of perception and communication; it shouldn’t be excessive or contrived. With this as a foundation, I hope to address broader themes beyond myself, to write poems that only I can write but through which many people can pass.
