For the third of our Centre’s Research Salon series this academic year to focus on science fiction writing from China, we’re delighted to welcome Dr Mia Chen Ma, a recent PhD graduate from SOAS, to discuss her latest research project.
In this online talk, Mia will focus on how Chinese women science fiction authors explore the changing conceptualizations of “care” in their futuristic narratives that concern the complex entanglements of gender, technology, language, and nonhuman intelligence. The presentation may discuss the following three SF texts: Regina Kanyu Wang’s “The Language Sheath” (2020), Zhao Haihong’s “Baby, I Love You” (2022), and Xiu Xinyu’s “The Stars We Raised” (2022).
The talk will be in English, and chaired by Zhang Jianan.
