For the first of our research salon series of 2025, we're delighted to be joined by Prof Jeff Wasserstrom, Chancellor’s Professor of History at UC Irvine, to discuss his current project focussing on George Orwell and contemporary China/Chinese writing, and specifically considering the reception of Orwell's most influential book, 1984, in Mainland China.

Prof Wasserstrom has recently written on a related topic for Prospect magazine. He also has upcoming events in Sheffield and Oxford which may be of interest.

Our salons are informal, discussion-based seminars, mainly focussing on aspects of Chinese literature. If you are not a member of our Centre and would like to be included on our mailing list please email the Director (f.weightman@leeds.ac.uk).
